About SPARK Literacy Foundation
SPARK Literacy Foundation funds access to Sound-to-Print reading instruction for schools that cannot otherwise afford it. The name stands for Sound-to-Print Access for Reading and Knowledge.
Schools make instructional decisions under budget pressure every year. The result is that the quality of a child's reading instruction often comes down to what their school can afford, not what the evidence supports. SPARK exists to help school leaders and families understand what Sound-to-Print (Linguistic Phonics) is, why it’s important for all students to access it when learning to read, and to help take cost out of that decision process.
What we fund
Grants cover three things: Access to the CAPIT Reading curriculum for students and staff in a participating school through our partnership with CAPIT Grants; the professional development and coaching that enable staff to deliver it effectively; and stipends paid to teachers for the hours they spend in training.
Where we work
SPARK works with schools in Israel and the United States. Our flagship program is the Negev Bilingual Literacy Initiative, a partnership with MindCET. It teaches Negev children to read Hebrew and English together, starting at age 5, rather than Hebrew first and English years later.
The first cohort runs from winter to summer 2027. The cohort is fully funded, so participating schools pay nothing.
Schools in Israel outside the Negev are also eligible to apply for a limited number of additional grants. Grants for U.S. schools will be announced in 2027.
Our relationship with Capit Learning
SPARK Literacy Foundation is an independent nonprofit started by Tzippy and Eyal Rav-Noy, the founders of Capit Learning.
Capit Learning provides CAPIT Reading licenses through their grant program to grantee schools at no charge. No SPARK funds pay for curriculum. SPARK's funds pay for professional development, stipends for teachers' training hours, and implementation coaching. Part of that coaching and implementation support is delivered by Capit Learning, and SPARK pays Capit Learning for it at cost. The Foundation has adopted a conflict of interest policy; decisions and payments in which either founder has an interest are reviewed and approved by the board members who do not.

Before founding Capit Learning, Tzippy and Eyal ran an adult education nonprofit in Los Angeles for fifteen years. Its most popular offering was a Hebrew reading class that took adults from no Hebrew to fluent decoding in a matter of hours. That class, and the method behind it, became CAPIT Reading.
Organizational status
SPARK Literacy Foundation was incorporated in California on June 7, 2026. Our application for 501(c)(3) determination is pending; once granted, exempt status applies retroactively to the incorporation date. Friendship Circle of Los Angeles serves as our interim fiscal partner, and contributions are received through them while the determination is pending.
